Is eating insects the solution for saving our planet? Insects as food has certainly been a hot topic, ever since the UN advised it as a solution to world hunger. Are they the new superfood or is it wishful thinking?

Ever since the UN advised insects as food, they have been praised by chefs for their unique taste, by environmentalists for their low environmental costs and by food scientists for their high nutritional value. They seem to be the perfect solution to world hunger. Nordic Food Lab, a team from Copenhagen consisting of chefs and scientists, travels the world to listen to people who have been eating insect for years. They harvest and eat insects with people from Europe, Australia, Mexico, Kenya, Japan and many other places.

Throughout their journey, which takes them from farms to international conferences, several difficult questions pop up. If insects were to be industrialized, will they still taste as good? Will they remain readily available for the people who count on them to survive? What if our ecosystem loses its balance? Are insects a reflection of our tottering food system, or are they are our salvation?
