The StrangerNicole Nielsen Horanyi
Amanda meets Casper through Facebook. After only a few "instant messages" Amanda is harassed by family members who suspect that she is after the fortune of the man who turns out to be part of one of the richest families in Denmark. Nothing is what it seems in this thriller documentary, which was reenacted by the people involved.
Single parents Amanda and Casper meet on Facebook. While she lives in a small apartment in a suburb of Copenhagen, Casper turns out to belong to one of the richest families in Denmark. They hit it off, and because Casper is not very happy with his wealth, he decides to move in with Amanda. It brings the two closer together, until Amanda discovers that Casper is keeping secrets. Thanks to Facebook, she is able to find out more about his family, which turns out to have an obscure past.
It is not the first time that Nicole Nielsen Horanyi focuses on a complicated love affair. In 2009 she made The DeVilles, a film about an American dancer and a punk rock singer with a strong but destructive relationship. Last year she presented Motley's Law at DOCVILLE, a film that won the youth prize at the DOC NYC festival. History repeats itself because The Stranger also won this prize.
