Golden Dawn GirlsHåvard Bustnes

It hit us like a brick: all of a sudden Golden Dawn, the party with neo-Nazi sympathies, became the third biggest political party in Greece. Another shock follows when suddenly all of the top men are arrested. Their wives are left behind and firmly take over.

Now that the male leaders of the Greek neo-Nazi party Golden Dawn are in jail, it is up to the women. Anyone who had hoped that the mothers, daughters and wives of the former party heavyweights would choose a more moderate course is sadly mistaken. In Golden Dawn Girls, Håvard Bustnes tells the story of the mother, daughter and wife of an important nationalist family. The way in which the women defend their men defies all imagination. The film gives the women a forum, supplemented with old footage that highlights the violent nature of the party. These tough ladies watch the footage without showing any kind of shame or remorse. Funny moments follow scenes that offer insights into the depressing situation in which these women live, proclaiming their gruesome ideas.
