Kinshasa SymphonyClaus Wischmann, Martin Baer

In complete darkness hundreds of musicians play Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony – Ode to Joy. There was a power cut right before they started the final phrase. But to the members of the only symphonic orchestra in Congo this is the least of their worries. Since the orchestra was founded fifteen years ago, it survived two revolutions, several crises and a civil war. The film portrays Congo today, the inhabitants of the chaotic metropolis Kinshasa and their love of music.
