Through home-movies discovered at his grandparents’ home in Bordeaux, director Robert-Jan Lacombe recounts his childhood in Mandima, a little village in northeast Zaire. Starting with a panoramic still of the great departure, he recalls the first ten years of that young boy who would, one fine day, have to leave for the city and leave behind his friends and a whole way of life.
