Les LiberterresJean-Christophe Lamy, Paul-Jean Vranken

They are rebellious, passionate and visionary. Andre, Giuseppe, Olga and Remi are farmers with a radically different vision of their craft. Are they fighting a losing battle or is there hope for a green revolution?

As prices plummet, farmers can no longer survive on the proceeds of their craft, and yet 1 billion people are undernourished. The farming industry is no longer economically viable, it harms the environment and it fails to produce enough food, but little seems to change. 'Les Liberterres' presents four farmers who believe that there is a different way. They are from Belgium, Italy, Austria and Africa, but what they have in common is their desire for autonomy. They are not dependent on suppliers, and they do not dance to the tune of the market as they are not dependent on subsidies. They are close to nature but also to their customers: they sell their products in short chain. They experiment plenty with new unconventional farming practices. All four men firmly believe that their way of growing food will offer food security to a world population of 9 billion by 2050. A bold statement that is checked against the analyses of renowned experts. A naive romantic ideal or the beginning of a green revolution?
