Lots of Kids, a Monkey and a CastleGustavo García Salmerón
When Julita married her husband, she had three wishes: lots of children, a pet monkey and to live in a castle. Lo and behold: they had many children together, they have a monkey and they live in a medieval castle. A hilarious portrait of this charming madre with a strong will and a heart of gold.
The relationship between mothers and sons is never self-evident. Spanish actor Gustavo Salmerón aims his camera at his own family and shows how, thanks to an inheritance, his family had the opportunity to buy a medieval castle. Matriarch Julita Salmerón with her eccentric personality clearly runs this cheerful family. The title refers to three wishes Julita made when she married her husband: to have many children, a pet monkey and a castle. The castle that they have come to live in is not a metaphor but a real medieval castle including old carpets, armor and candle holders. The story unfolds when Julita is forced to tidy up, but is unable to throw anything out. Her enormous collection takes up the entire place. Her vision of life emerges through the stories, portrayed in various image formats such as Super 8 and images from Gustavo's Iphone. It results in a film laced with warmth and affection. Even though not everything goes smoothly, the family never loses their sense of humor and disarming spontaneity.
