Meeting GorbachevWerner Herzog, Andre Singer

Documentary god Werner Herzog meets one of his heroes: former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev. A cinematic encounter that recreates the life of the former world leader. Gorbachev speaks openly about his eventual political downfall and the machinations behind it. A unique look back at world history by a key figure in that history.

He is 87 years old now, but Gorbachev still has as much charisma as when he introduced some reforms as a world leader, which would change the Soviet Union and by extension the world forever. He was at the helm when the Cold War came to an end, the nuclear disarmament was deployed and the Berlin Wall fell. Gorbachev also speaks openly about the end of the Soviet Union, the rise of Yeltsin and the dark forces that played a role in this. Herzog speaks with the former world leader three times over a period of six months. The interviews are supplemented with comments, archive footage and interviews with other prominent politicians from that time. A beautiful portrait of a fascinating figure, who can not form a greater contrast than with current Russian president Putin.
