ObjectifiedGary Hustwit

Every single object, from our telephones and our toothbrushes to the latest gadget we’ve spoiled ourselves with, has been designed. As good design is supposed to look as though no design was involved, we do not generally think about this. Another thing we take for granted is the extent to which the look of an object communicates to us what purpose it serves, how expensive it is, and if it’s something that’s suited to our lifestyle. As consumers, we have no idea how much work goes into achieving that effect. “Every object tells a story”, says Jonathan Ive, head of Industrial Design at Apple and one of the most influential product developers in the world. “Objectified” explores the impact design has on our lives and how the things we surround ourselves with have become a means of self-expression, influencing how we see ourselves and how we choose to present ourselves to others.
