PlanetaryGuy Reid

Extraordinary images of the beauty of our planet show the growing awareness that everything is interconnected. An impressive visual essay that you have to watch on the big screen.

In 2012, Guy Reid directed a short documentary called 'Overview' about the experience many astronauts have when they see Earth from a distance for the first time: an intense revelation of how small mankind is in the bigger picture. But not in the negative sense. On the contrary, it is the realization that our planet is one big whole, an exceptional environment in which all life is interconnected.

In “Planetary” Reid translates this experience to the big screen. With stunning images shot around the world, he not only shows the beauty of our planet, but also the fact that the interconnectedness of all life on earth is something worth protecting. Because even though the astronauts cherish this intense emotion, it appears that this fundamental realization doesn’t really resonate with many people who keep their feet firmly on the ground. We continue to look at nature as a kind of storehouse we can use or - even worse - plunder at will. The stunning images of 'Planetary' are the ultimate wake-up call, as well as a poetic visual essay.
