The Forgotten SpaceAllan Sekula & Noel Burch

This essayistic film looks at the role the ocean plays in our globalized world. Labour, money and goods have all become mobile and container transport is an important part of that chain. “The Forgotten Space” takes the most important routes and ports of these mastodonts of the sea in search of the human story behind this global economy. Labourers, engineers and politicians from Rotterdam, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Antwerp talk about how efficiency can lead to alienation or how the romance of a polder town can’t win from a booming port.
