Where to Invade NextMichael Moore

America’s getting read for elections, and just now their best-known and most controversial documentary filmmaker Michael Moore returns with a hilarious, but also deadly serious documentary about how the US can become 'great' again.

Donald Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again” has a very different meaning to  Michael Moore. Moore tries to figure out which countries the US should "invade" now; not to defend political or economic interests, but to learn something from them. The ironic title does not refer to an analysis of US foreign policy, but to a new kind of battle: according to Moore, it is high time that America explores other countries "in order to steal their best ideas."

He goes to Italy to see how paid holidays work - something they can only dream of in the US. In Finland, he discoveres a different kind of education, in Iceland a political class where women make up the majority... With a lot of humor Moore plays the idealist who joyously discovers how life can be improved on. While his earlier documentaries (Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11) were mainly driven by an intense anger against the system, "Where to Invade Next" is a playful but subversive comedy. Behind the hilarious approach, of course, is the stinging reality of the limitations of contemporary American society.
