Men of War
Billy Corben, Jen Gatien United States 2024 98 min.
Imagine: you are hired to overthrow the Venezuelan president, but you never get the promised money and your plans are leaked a few days before. Anyone else would abandon the plot, but not ex-commander Jordan Gourdeau. He looks back on the events of 2020 himself in this story that is too silly to be made up.

Award-winning filmmaker Billy Corben (Screwball) was at DOCVILLE in 2019 where he gave a master class on screenwriting for documentaries. He knows, like no other, how to present extraordinary stories and colourful characters in his sensational films. And that is certainly the case with Men of War, as the phrase ‘stranger than fiction’ has rarely been so apt as on the story of ex-military man Jordan Gourdeau. In 2020, the Venezuelan army of authoritarian President Maduro intercepted a group of soldiers in their very clumsy coup attempt. Central figure in this bizarre event was US ex-commando Jordan Goudreau who - according to himself - was hired to overthrow Maduro. Strangely, he allowed the plan to go ahead even though he never received the promised money and the plans had already been leaked.
