The analysis of a removed kidney stone sets in motion - almost like the first stone in a domino series - a philosophical detective story about the forgotten world of stones. They are one of the most fundamental and at the same time one of the most neglected building elements of our world. A hypnotic essay film by DOCVILLE-habitué Sofie Benoot, which takes us on a journey full of remarkable encounters, featuring Palestinian stonemasons, passionate British geologists and inhabitants of a lava landscape in Fogo.

When director Sofie Benoot one day came across a YouTube video about the largest kidney stone in the world, she was triggered. The world of stone and the human world, which usually appear to be completely separated from each other, came together within the human body. Stone is so often overlooked in our living world. This essay film carefully puzzles together a mosaic of stories to bring out hidden connections, from acute ecological issues to the unexpectedly porous boundaries between past and present, narrator and participant of a story, human and stone.
