In their documentary Merckx, directors Boris Tilquin and Christophe Hermans take a look at the career and personal life of Eddy Merckx, who rose to the top in international cycling in the 1960s and 1970s. By combining archival material from various TV stations and amateur footage of spectators, they sketch an intimate portrait of the cycling champion. The images, often never shown before, offer a unique and surprising insight into Merckx's life. How did he deal with professional and personal setbacks? And how did those around him experience his star status, which came with adoration and success, but also with jealousy and rumors?
