Thirteen-year-old Melrick is spending his summer holidays with his grandmother Nicole in Cayenne, Guyana. He loves it there, but during his visit, his love for music evokes memories of his uncle Lucas, who was a drummer as well and who died tragically 11 years earlier. Faced with the grief of his family and the vindictiveness of Lucas' best friend, Melrick tries to find his own way.

With an impressive series of festival selections and already an award and a special mention from the Locarno Film Festival under its belt, this debut feature from Maxime Jean-Baptiste is already a hit. A poignant and warm film that not only sheds light on the long-term effects of mourning and loss, but also on growing up cross-culturally and the lasting impact of violence in an area scarred by the history of Transatlantic slavery.
