100th Epsiode "Vranckx en de Nomaden"Eugenie D’Hooghe, Kanzi Louagie, Simon Clément, Jules Stallaerts, Seppe Vanden Broeck, Anneleen Ophoff

For ten years, promising Flemish storytellers have been traveling the globe with Rudi Vranckx. Each with their own motivation and personal methods, they make a documentary about a unique aspect of the world, under the supervision of Vranckx’ experienced team. To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of this series of reports, Rudi Vranckx invites you at Docville to watch three unseen ones - together with him and the young filmmakers.

For ten years, journalist Rudi Vranckx and his team have been accompanying young documentary filmmakers who shed light on unique aspects of our world. To celebrate this decade of projects, Vranckx will present you with three unseen documentaries of these young creatives. Opdrogend land brings to the fore how the agriculture and the life security of farmers in Mesopotamia is jeopardized by drought. Not only extreme weather conditions but also Turkish dams play into that problem. The context of political interests, ongoing conflicts and the risk of diseases make the situation even more critical. Zorg voor Kilembe tells the story of Kilembe, a community in Uganda near the border with Congo. A hospital is providing essential care, but has to count on assistance of a Belgian non-profit. But then disaster strikes: multiple inundations make the hospital inoperable and medical help in the region falls away. The situation is urgent and the rebuilding of a new hospital is in hands of courageous volunteers trying to make do with what they have. Achter het rookgordijn, finally, takes us to the problematic burnings of waste and agricultural fields in Bolivia during the dry seasons. This agricultural tradition has gotten out of hand, putting into danger forests and grasslands, and behind this curtain of smoke lies a complex situation of different social problems.

This film is part of...

Belgian selection

DOCVILLE presents the best Belgian documentaries of the past year in a very varied selection: compelling stories about people who live for their passion, whether it be cycling, circuit riding or mermaids, but also socially probing stories about illegal adoption, the dangers of criticism under Putin, the link between jazz and decolonization or the abominable conditions in Vorst prison. Finally, there are also films with a more philosophical angle on the transience of the human body or the impact of imaging. The best film may call itself the winner of the Jury Prize for Best Belgian Documentary.
